Update – Detectives Investigating a Homicide at Sugar Cane Growers, Belle Glade
UPDATE * ARREST *
The victim’s family has invoked Marsy’s law, therefore, his name will not be released. The victim is 67 years of age, from Martin County.
The suspect has been identified as Felix Cabrera, DOB: 5/14/1935 of Belle Glade.
Detectives learned that Cabrera worked for the sugar mill for 31 years and was told he was going to be terminated. Today, between 10:00 – 11:00 am, Cabrera was instructed to clock out and not return to work. Cabrera made contact with the victim asking to continue to work for another year due to financial reasons. The victim replied, “NO”. Cabrera became upset, pulled the gun out of his pocket and shot the victim several times, killing him.
Felix Cabrera is currently going through the booking process. He has been charged with First Degree Murder (premediated). NO BOND. He will attend first appearance on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

What: One employee is deceased and one employee has been arrested
Deputies responded to a shooting at the Sugar Cane Growers CO-OP. Upon arrival deputies located an adult male deceased near the entrance of the building. Deputies immediately began searching the business and quickly located the suspect who was armed with a handgun. The suspect was arrested without incident.
The shooting appears to be a planned event. Deputies arriving within minutes of the shooting may have prevented the suspect’s ability to shoot anyone else.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Division are in route to the scene to investigate further.
