On October 11, 2024, at 7:47 pm, deputies responded to JFK Medical Center after a victim was found in the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the femoral artery and was listed in critical condition. The Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit is heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Vanessa, our beloved 18-year-old Holsteiner mare. Vanessa fell ill during her assignment at St. Mary’s Medical Center and sadly succumbed to her medical condition.
