The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Railroad Administration, to address railway trespassing in the City of Lake Worth Beach.

The proposed project will address railway trespassing in the City of Lake Worth Beach, home to three miles of FEC railway and three miles of SFRTA/Tri-Rail Commuter railway, through enforcement activities and community awareness.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office will work closely with project partners at South Florida Regional Transportation Authority and Virgin Trains USA (f/k/a Brightline) to identify hot spots, conduct enforcement, and maximize project benefits. We expect through these efforts that incidents of trespassing will be reduced, incidents of related injuries and deaths will be reduced, and the overall safety of both community members and railroad occupants will be improved.

Palm Beach County, which includes the City of Lake Worth Beach, ranks second in the state for trespass related injuries and deaths; Florida ranks third in the United States for trespass related injuries and deaths.
