Shooting Investigation of a 7 year old child.

PBSO is investigating a shooting which preliminary information points to ACCIDENTAL. A father , age 29, brought his7 year old child into St. Mary’s Hospital with a gunshot wound . The father stated that another child in the home (age 6), accidentally shot him with a handgun. The 7 year old child that was shot is alert and talking at the hospital. The call was initially given to West Palm Beach PD and then routed to PBSO. PBSO Deputies responded to St. Mary’s Hospital to investigate. PBSO Detectives are on their way to the hospital to investigate. The incident occurred inside the child’s home at the Hampton Court Apartments in the 4000 block of Austrailian Ave. This investigation is open and ongoing. No additional information at this time. PBSO received this call at 3:21pm.

Detectives have been able to gather additional information involving this shooting. The two children involved are brothers and there was a younger sister in the apartment as well as their mother when the accidental shooting occurred. The parents are cooperating with Detectives and DCF investigators. There are still conflicting accounts of where the handgun was when the child got to it. Interviews are still ongoing with the family. The shooting took place in the living room of the apartment. The father advised that he arrived home just after the incident happened and took the entire family to St. Mary’s Hospital. The father admits that the .40 caliber handgun belongs to him. The young victim of the shooting is in stable condition at St. Mary’s. PBSO and DCF will continue to investigate and turn over findings to the States Attorney’s Office.
