Homicide in Lake Worth

Saturday, August 20, 2016, at 01:48 am, deputies responded to the 100 block of South B Street, Lake Worth, in reference to receiving multiple calls regarding an armed domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered victim/decedent in the bedroom. She had suffered significant blunt trauma to her head. PBCFR responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. The victims daughters (12 and 16 years-of-age) were also located near the residence. Both had witnessed part of the altercation that lead to their mother’s death. The victim’s husband, Walter Lopez Barrios, was developed as the suspect in her death. It was also learned that Barrios fled the scene in a red 2008 Toyota Tacoma registered to the victim. The vehicle was recovered unoccupied by FHP at 2:25 am after it had been involved in a single-car accident on I-95 in Boynton Beach.

Probable cause was developed for Barrios’ arrest and PBSO Tactical Unit squad was summoned for assistance. With the assistance of the Eagle, Barrios was arrested at 8:05 am in a neighborhood east of the crash site.

The victim has been identified as Martha Montoya, DOB: 6/29/60.

The Suspect is Walter Barrios, DOB: 12/20/78

A search warrant was executed on the residence. THIS CASE IS CLEARED BY ARREST.
