Bicycle Safety Rodeo

On Saturday, November 14th, 2015, ten members of the Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Bicycle Unit ran a Bicycle Safety Rodeo for the children of the Winston Trails community. The Volunteers fitted and distributed 87 helmets. After receiving their helmets, the children were presented with a loaner bicycle, if needed, and the entered an obstacle course. They received safety instructions on what to do when entering a street, coming into contact with a stop sign, and when presented with an automobile in their path of travel. The Bicycle Safety Rodeo was a success and the volunteers were asked to return next year.

Volunteer Bicycle Unit consists of specially trained volunteers who passed an eight-hour bike course. The unit’s mission is to provide directed patrols in and around their assigned communities and other designated areas, as well as, run Bicycle Safety Rodeos.
