Meet Colonel William Brannin

Colonel William Brannin is a career law enforcement professional with approximately 31 years of local law enforcement experience.  He is responsible for overseeing the Department of Professional Standards, which is comprised of the following Divisions:  Legal Affairs, Internal Affairs, Training, Staff Inspections (policy/accreditation), Human Resources, Risk Management and Labor Relations.

After serving in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years, Colonel Brannin began his law enforcement career as an officer with the Lake Worth Police Department in 1995.  He was hired by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in December of 1998.  In 2001, Colonel Brannin took a leave of absence to serve with the United Nations International Police Task Force in Kosovo, Yugoslavia.

Colonel Brannin has advanced through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, and was promoted to the rank of Colonel in January 2026.  His training and experience is diversified to include assignments in Road Patrol, Detective Bureau, Internal Affairs, Legal Affairs, Eastern Region Commander, and the Personnel Services Bureau.

Colonel Brannin holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in History from Florida Atlantic University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 289.
