Fallen Officer Toy Drive BBQ

Fallen Officer Toy Drive 2018
There are over 1,000 fallen officers' children in the United States. This month, in partnership with the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association we hosted a Toy Drive BBQ at Lake Lytal Park to collect toys and donations for the fallen officer’s families. Between Palm Beach County and Broward County, we were able to collect well over 1,000 toys to assist with toy deliveries. That’s what the holidays are all about!

PBSO Welcomes United States Army Sgt. Richard “Tiny” Sowell

PBSO Welcomes United States Army Sgt. Richard “Tiny” Sowell, killed in action on Saipan on July 7, 1944. Lewis Sowell, Jr., Sgt. Sowell’s nephew, was contacted by the military in 2015 and advised that they had possibly found some remains and asked for a sample of his DNA, which he provided. On June 30, 2017 the match was confirmed.

PBSO Deputy Sheriff George C. Douglass was appointed as Deputy Sheriff only five weeks before his death. He was reluctant to take the position and did so only when requested by unanimous vote of the council. On August, 27, 1921, Deputy George C. Douglass was shot trying to arrest a theft suspect near South Bay.

Honoring the Memory of Fallen PBSO Deputies 16 Year Anniversary

While performing his official duties he sustained a physical injury. On December 6, 2000 Deputy Oetinger (Pictured Left) passed away due to medical complications related to this previous injury.
On June 7, 1991, while on duty serving the citizens of Palm Beach County, Deputy Hobbs (Pictured Right) was sprayed with a lethal level of a herbicide. After battling for over 9 years with an illness contracted from the herbicide, Deputy Garry Hobbs passed away December 9, 2000

Deputy Dennis Wallace Killed While On Duty

Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Deputy Sheriff Dennis Wallace from the Stanislaus Sheriff’s Office, a 20 year veteran who died Nov 13th.
While investigating a suspicious vehicle dispatchers alerted him the vehicle was stolen, he then requested backup.
When the second Deputy arrived on the scene he discovered Deputy Wallace.
He was shot twice in the head from point blank range.
