Per Medicare guidelines, Retirees and spouses must apply for Medicare Part A and Part B three months prior to turning age 65. *Contact Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 or visit their website at www.ssa.gov for more information about Medicare eligibility and to sign up for Medicare Part A and Part B.

*Failure to apply will result in a delay in obtaining Medicare coverage and a late enrollment penalty, which will last the rest of your life.

PBSO retiree benefits – Medicare
Once the retiree becomes Medicare eligible, PBSO retiree medical can be continued as a supplemental plan, including prescription medication. Did you know that retirees’ health insurance premiums decrease when they become eligible for Medicare Part B? A copy of the retiree’s Medicare card must be submitted through one of the following methods in order to reduce their monthly premium:

  1. Send us a copy of the Medicare card Part B, retirees can take a picture with their cellular phone and send it to us a text message to: retirement@pbso.org
  2. Scan a copy of the Medicare card Part B, click here: retirement@pbso.org
  3. Send us a copy of the Medicare card Part B by mail to:Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office

    Attention: Benefits Retirement

Upon receipt of a copy of the Medicare card Part B, an email will be sent to the retiree with the revised Medicare premium.
