Just after 9:00 am this morning, two PBSO deputies were flagged down by a citizen believing a suspicious male was attempting to break into a building in the 1500 block of South Military Trail, unincorporated West Palm Beach.  Both deputies approached the suspicious male in an attempt to talk to him. The male was uncooperative and sitting with his back to the bushes. The first deputy grabbed the male’s arm in an attempt to help him stand when the male began to fight with the deputy.  While fighting with the deputy the male grabbed for his gun tucked in his side. The second deputy seeing this ordered the first deputy to distance himself from the male and discharged her firearm once striking the male in the torso. The male was immediately given first aid.  PBC Fire Rescue arrived and transported the male to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 11:58 am.

The male’s name is being withheld until his next of kin is notified.

FDLE (the lead investigators), PBSO Violent Crimes detectives, and the State Attorney’s Office investigators are investigating this Deputy Involved Shooting.

Both Deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave which is standard department protocol.
