Welcome to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Department of Corrections.

Our mission is to provide a cost effective, high degree of security for the citizens of Palm Beach County and to provide for the safety of staff and inmates at each correctional facility. It is also recognized that incarceration is, in and of itself, punishment. All inmates shall be held accountable for their actions and shall leave the detention facility no worse physically or emotionally than when they were first incarcerated.

A positive atmosphere shall be created for both staff and inmates in accordance with Florida Model Jail Standards, American Correctional Association, Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission, National Commission on Correctional Health Care, as well as adherence to Florida State Statutes. We shall provide a safe and secure environment for inmates, provide necessary training for correctional personnel and create a variety of programs, which provide inmates an opportunity to prepare themselves for introduction into a less restrictive detention environment and eventual re-introduction into their communities.

Security
Responsible for Inmate Housing during their period of incarceration.

The MAIN DETENTION CENTER is a 1526 bed facility located on Gun Club Road. Maximum, medium and minimum custody adult males are housed in this facility. Juvenile and special population male and female inmates are also assigned to the Main Detention Center.

The CENTRAL DETENTION CENTER is a 17-acre compound, located adjacent to the South Florida Fairgrounds. This 967-bed facility houses medium and minimum security inmates. The Substance Treatment and Recovery Program (STAR), Life Skills, Culinary Arts, Alternative Custody, and Drug Education programs are located at the Central Detention Center.

The WEST DETENTION CENTER is located in Belle Glade. The 126 bed facility houses medium and minimum custody adult male and female inmates.

The Inmate Management Bureau is one of seven commands within the Sheriff's Department of Corrections. Sections within Inmate Management include: Booking & Release, Inmate Records, Classification and Inmate Property.

Standards & Staff Development
The Standards and Staff Development Division supports the functions of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Corrections. The division consists of Accreditation, Contract Compliance, Criminal Investigations, Field Training Programs, Key Control, Laundry and Quartermaster. These sections/units and other key staff assigned to the division work hard to support the overall goals and mission of the Sheriff’s Office. How do I find out if a person is in custody?
Booking information is available by calling Inmate Records (561) 688-4340. This number will provide information for all three PBSO Correctional facilities. Information can also be obtained on line at http://www.pbso.org/corrections/index.cfm?fa=blotter.

How do I bond someone out of jail?
Bond information can be obtained or verified by calling Inmate Records (561) 688-4340 or from http://www.pbso.org/corrections/index.cfm?fa=blotter. Once the amount is determined, an individual may post a bond using the following options:

1. Post a CASH BOND (cash, money orders, or certified checks only, NO personal checks) in the total amount of the bond made payable to Palm Beach County Sheriff.
2. Post bond using cash, credit or debit card at a Western Union Agent location or by calling 1-800-634-3422 or online at www.westernunion.com. Make sure you include the following information when completing the Blue Quick Collect Send Form:

   Pay to: Palm Bch Cty Sheriffs Ofc
   Code City / State: PBSOJAIL/FL
   Account Number: Enter the Jacket number and Inmate Last/First Name.
   Jacket number can be obtained from the booking blotter on the web at

   A service fee will be charged by Western Union to process the money transfer.
3. Have a bondsman post a SURETY BOND. Most often, a bondsman will charge a percentage of the bond as a fee for posting the bond and require the individual to sign a promissory note. A list of local bondsmen are listed in the phone book and posted in the Visitor's Lobby of the Main Detention Center and West Detention Center.

What are the procedures for picking up someone who has been bonded out of jail?
All individuals are released from either the Main Detention Center through the Visitor's Lobby, or the West County Detention Center. Once the bond has been received, processed, and executed the individual will be out-processed and will exit through this area. Friends and family members of the individual can wait in the Visitor's Lobby or can be notified by telephone by the individual. Pay phones are available in the Visitor's Lobby.

Can an inmate have telephone calls?
Inmates cannot receive telephone calls, but have access to a telephone in the housing unit where they are assigned. Telephone calls are "collect". Local calls are $2.10 for up to 15 minutes. Charges for all other calls vary by distance and length of call.

What programs are offered to rehabilitate inmates?
Educational, religious, and work programs are available to individuals. Among these programs are:

GED preparation and testing

What medical services are available or provided to inmates?
Medical, dental and psychological services are provided under a contract with a medical provider. Each facility has nursing staff on duty 24 hours a day to respond to routine medical issues, as well as emergencies.

What are the procedures for visiting an inmate?
Visitation is conducted Thursday through Sunday at the facilities. Inmates are allowed to receive one visit on a weekday and one visit on the weekend. Visitors must present a valid picture I.D. and comply with dress code requirements. Minors must be accompanied by a parent, who must present a copy of the minor's birth certificate. The actual hours of visitation are determined by the individual's housing assignment and may be obtained by calling (561) 688-4340 or visit the PBSO website. Proper attire must be worn or visitors will not be allowed access. Visitation is provided to all inmates unless specific documented circumstances exist. The circumstances may include behavioral issues, security issues and medical issues.

What is the VINE Program? Victim Information Notification Everyday (VINE) is a free, anonymous, computer-based telephone service that provides automatic notification when an inmate is released, transferred, or escapes. Only inmates housed in a PBSO Detention Facility will be included in the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office VINE program. For obtaining inmate status information call 1-877-727-6846.

How can a citizen file a complaint against a PBSO employee?
To initiate a complaint against an employee of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, contact Internal Affairs, any supervisor of the agency, or any sub-station or designated district. Complaint forms are available at the front lobby at Headquarters anytime, day or night. The Internal Affairs Division is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
