WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM

Rule

The Community Action Team is comprised of crime prevention and education officers who use problem-solving to assist the patrol districts in especially troublesome areas. Members work in conjunction with patrol, as well as other C.I.T. units, such as the Gang Intervention Unit and the Truancy Interdiction Unit.

Usually at the request of the Patrol District Commander, the team augments current patrol resources within a district in places where extra patrol and enforcement is needed.   The Community Action Team also assists with special projects within the Community Involvement Team, such as truancy sweeps, tobacco enforcement and gang graffiti documentation and eradication.

The Community Action Team specializes in problem solving in neighborhoods where normal patrol response is sometimes restrained by the mere volume of calls for service. The Community Action Team program is an example of the Sheriff's Office striving to make the most efficient use of available resources.
