By April 1, 1998 Palm Beach County's population was approximately 1,020,400, an increase of 16.6% from 1997, with 45 new residents arriving daily. Our county of beaches and farms, urban centers and country towns is the largest metropolitan county east of the Mississippi River, spreading out of 2,386 square miles.
More than 233,300 cars and trucks travel over Interstate 95 and the Florida Turnpike each day. Palm Beach International Airport serves an annual traveling public of more than 5,844,098. In 1998, 2,428,000 people visited Palm Beach County hotel facilities.
Sugar is one of our county's largest agricultural crops, with 1, 923,308 tons produced annually. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is constantly changing to meet the needs of our diverse and rapidly growing communities.
