Opened in the Fall of 1997, the Eagle Academy embodied innovation, embraced children, and enabled those that needed a boost a chance to pursue the American Dream.

When first opened, the Eagle Academy was the first of its kind in the nation.  Conceived as a Sheriff's Office partnership with with Palm Beach County Board of Education and supported by State Attorney Barry Krischer, the Academy is located in a new Sheriff's Office facility in Belle Glade. Chairman of the Board of County Commission, Burt Aaronson, and the Board of County Commissioners pledged support of the project.  Programs combining boot camp discipline, individual counseling, education, and the restoration of pride were made available to children at risk and to parents in need of answers and support.

At the opening ceremony of the Academy, Florida Commissioner of Education Frank T. Brogan told the young students that the American Dream embodied the opportunity to raise families in a safe and secure environment and through loving care, prepare children for lives of success and opportunity. Through the doors of the Eagle Academy, children are given the tools to make the necessary choices to pursue the dream of all Americans.
