Welcome to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office West Detention Website.  I am Thomas Vassalotti and I serve as the Security Commander of the West Detention Center.  I am a native South Floridian and attended school in Palm Beach County.  I have been serving the community as a Corrections professional for over twenty-five years joining this organization back in 1992.  Since 1992 I have worked in various several divisions.  In 1998 I was promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to the Central Detention Center formally known as the Stockade.  I was promoted to Watch Commander in 2004 and was assigned to the Main Detention Center and later served at the Central Detention Center until 2011 when the CDC merged with West Detention Center where I served as the Charlie Shift Watch Commander.  In July of 2012 I was selected as the Administrative Lieutenant for the Corrections Support Services Division where I supervised the Video Visitation Unit and the Corrections Emergency Response Unit (CERT).  In April of 2017 I was promoted to Captain and reassigned to the West Detention Center where I have the awesome task of working with some of the finest correctional staff in Palm Beach County.  I have an extensive list of continuing education training as it related to the Corrections profession.  I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Palm Beach State College.
