Deputy Sheriff Brian Fidler was Honored by Governor Rick Scott with the Governor’s Heroism Award

Governor’s Heroism Award is awarded to a recipient must have distinguished himself or herself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity, must have risked his or her life deliberately above and beyond the call of duty while performing duty in his or her respective position, and must have engaged in hazardous or perilous activities to preserve lives with the knowledge that such activities might result in great personal harm.

On June 6, 2014, at 2:00 am, D/S Brian Fidler responded to a residential fire in the 3800 block of Chickasha Road, Lake Worth, A woman standing outside advised D/S Fidler her three children were still inside the house. By this time the residence was fully engulfed in flames. Without hesitation, D/S Fidler broke out a back bedroom window with a garbage can and entered, searching for the children. D/S Fidler carried each rescued child back to the bedroom window, handing the children off to waiting D/S Lawless and Sgt. Honkala. Although the children suffered some burn injuries, all three are alive due to D/S Fidler’s actions. D/S Fidler suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns.
