Brightline Train

On March 9th, 2023, just before 3:00 pm, we responded to a collision involving a Brightline train and a vehicle at Washington Ave and S. Dixie Highway. Sadly, the driver of the vehicle, a man born in 1944, ignored the crossing gates and was hit by the southbound train.

We want to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of obeying traffic signals, including those at railroad crossings. Not doing so can lead to severe injury or even loss of life. We ask all drivers to stay alert and cautious when approaching these crossings.

It’s with regret that we must inform you that the vehicle driver in this incident will receive a citation for “Failure to Obey Railroad Crossing Device.” We want to extend our sincere gratitude to the first responders and community members who assisted in the response.

Our hearts go out to everyone involved, and we encourage you all to stay safe when out on the roads. Remember, paying attention to traffic signals can save lives.
