Team Slater Update

Who remembers Slater? The strong boy who was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. His story inspired us all this past summer. Our SWAT and the K9 teams sent Slater another reminder that we haven’t forgotten him and continue to cheer him on. This is an update from his family:

“How can we possibly thank PBSO – Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office any more for what they have done and continue to do for our boys?!!!! Here is a continuation, a follow-up gift package they sent to our boys, as part of their induction into the force… this summer. Slater has just been readmitted back to the hospital and hasn’t had a chance to really be out until recently, and is finally being more alert and awake and EXCITED, more each day! We are bracing ourselves for the next part, radiation therapy, next week with a “practice run” on Friday to make sure everything works as planned — and it’s only fitting these boys know that they have one of the finest and best individuals right behind Slater every step of the way. ??❤️??I honestly don’t even know how to properly thank PBSO, SWAT and K9 teams. Every time, you make them smile bigger than I’ve ever seen, and we fight back tears of joy and promise. Your department has shown him humanity and compassion, has given him courage, has promised him hope of great things to come in his future. As a parent, our fear is always that .. well, you all know what the fear is.. but seeing him in these adult SWAT and SHERIFF jersey uniforms, it is giving us and him, the determination that they will both grow into those shirts big and strong and that they will wear these jerseys every single year of their lives, as we will take photos of a time lapse every year to see them grow into these. He will make it into adulthood and beyond, into his golden years. He has to.
Sergeant Matt Longhini, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, K9 and SWAT teams, are some of the most noble, giving, sympathetic, honorable heroes we have ever known. Our boys will wear these proudly, they are so honored to. We will thank you in person when we leave St Jude and go home next year. You are THE BEST! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. ❤️”

Hang in there Slater, we love you.
