The Victim/Witness program uses specially trained PBSO employees with a social work background and education to assist victims and witnesses of crimes investigated by PBSO. Duties include contacting victims and witnesses to inform them of the pending release of offenders, counseling victims and witnesses, and helping them work with the criminal justice system to give needed testimony, and to refer them to services offered by various county and state programs.
  • Serious automobile accidents.
  • Seeing smoke or fire, no matter how small.
  • When there is any type of medical problem.
  • If you witness a burglary or assault in progress.
  • When there is imminent danger to someone’s safety.
  • Anytime you feel at risk is an emergency, call 9-1-1 FIRST before anyone else.
There are many types of reasonable accommodations. Some examples of how PBSO provides reasonable accommodations include:
  • Removal of architectural, communication or transportation barriers
  • Acquisition or modification of equipment or devices

Lock your doors! Securing your property is the best way to protect your business. Maintain your property. Remove trash or unused objects from outside the business. Install motion detection lighting on the outside of your business.  Criminals do not want to be seen. Invest in a good quality camera system that is able to be viewed off sight. Install an alarm system.

Once the bond has been received, processed and executed, all inmates are released from either the Main Detention Center through the Visitor’s Lobby, or the West County Detention Center. Friends and family members of the individual can wait in the Visitor’s Lobby or can be notified by telephone by the individual.

The permit application cost is $25.00 paid in advance. A $25.00 renewal fee is due one year after the original application date. After receiving the $25.00 renewal fee, and providing that any other fines have been paid, all false alarms are cleared from the premise record and the premise record will go back to zero. Renewal invoices will be mailed the week of your renewal month each year. After you file your petition, the judge can sign a Temporary Injunction which will tell the abuser that he/she may not be violent toward you. The Temporary Injunction is given to you by the judge. A court date will be set for an extension hearing within 15 days. You must attend the hearing in order to have the Injunction extended. A Palm Beach County Victim Services counselor may be at the hearing to support you. During the extension hearing, the judge may extend the Injunction for a period of time up to one year.
