The following information illustrates activity and accomplishments for the Weed & Seed Program for 1998:

NW RIVIERA BEACH SITE

LAW ENFORCEMENT TEAM
-> Credited with obtaining over 12 federal convictions

COMMUNITY POLICING
-> Developed method for drug activity to be monitored and reported by residents
-> Collaborated with residents on successful anti-crime/drug marches and vigils

PREVENTION, INTERVENTION, AND TREATMENT
-> Tutorial program resulted in improvement in participant's grades
-> Youth Crime Prevention Program established at the Riviera Beach Safe Haven

COMMUNITY RESTORATION
-> Completed Phase III Cunningham Park Project - gazebo and activity pavilion
-> Community Center land sale contract closed.

PLEASANT CITY/NW WEST PALM BEACH SITE

LAW ENFORCEMENT TEAM
-> Successfully closed a bar known for illicit drug sales and violence
-> Credited with obtaining 18 federal convictions

COMMUNITY POLICING
-> Under SAVE (Stop Adult Violators Effectively) Program, Community Policing officers made 501 home visits, filed 31 violations and made 5 arrests

PREVENTION, INTERVENTION, AND TREATMENT
-> Tutorial Book Club resulted in document grade improvements for participants
-> Youth West Palm Beach Safe Haven increased youth participation from 17 to an average of 53

COMMUNITY RESTORATION
-> A block cleanup in the northwest neighborhood resulted in 72 tons of debris removed from the area.

AMERICORPS
-> Held 11 crime prevention workshops teaching crime prevention skills to 198 residents
-> Formed 7 neighborhood associations with 62 residents
-> Provided after-school educational services to more than 110 students, 26 of whom are now on the Honor Roll
-> Recruited more than 100 volunteers who provided nearly 800 volunteer hours
-> Established 10 new service providers that service more than 200 residents
