INVESTIGATIVE SERVICES

Investigative Services consists of three diverse and unique sections:  Court Services, Detective Bureau, and Investigative Services.  The Weed and Seed Program is also under Investigative Services..

COURT SERVICES is comprised of the Civil Process Section, Bailiff, Court Security Detail, and the Court Liaison Office.  Court Services is responsible for serving judicial papers for the Judicial Circuits of Florida, the Supreme Court, and the Board of County Commissioners.   Click for more on Court Services

The DETECTIVE BUREAU is responsible for all major, long-term and follow-up investigations that require specific expertise.  Under the direction of the Detective Bureau, the Warrants/Fugitive Bureau receives and processes all warrants and capias issued by the Palm Beach County Court System. The newly formed Computer Crimes Unit is part of the Detective Bureau.

INVESTIGATIVE SERVICES is comprised of four sections:  Organized Crime Bureau, Technical Services, Crime Lab, and Tactical Operations Unit.

The Organized Crime Bureau investigates persons involved in the illegal narcotics trade, as well as those involved in organized criminal activity including gambling and prostitution. 

Technical Services provides support to law enforcement activities by photographing crime scenes, collecting and processing evidence, comparing latent prints with fingerprints on file to identify perpetrators, processing photos and sorting evidence and property.

The Crime Laboratory tests and examines evidence in an effort to connect unknown suspects to crimes.  The Tactical Operations Unit provides investigative assistance, intelligence gathering and support to the operational components of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, local, state and federal agencies and law enforcement entities of foreign governments. The Unit also conducts long term case specific investigations, dignitary protection and monitors actions of militants, terrorists, extremists, and subversive organizations.

WEED & SEED is a federal initiative administered by the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office.  The program uses a comprehensive strategy to "weed out" violent crime, gang activity, drug use and drug trafficking in targeted high-crime neighborhoods. Following eradication, the targeted areas are restored with "seeds" by using social and economic revitalization and other effective methods.
