District Summary
My name is Reinaldo Alonso and I am the District Commander assigned to the Pahokee sub-station. I have been with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office since September 1991. I was a long time resident of the Western Communities and served in the area for many years. I was previously assigned as the administrative Lieutenant for Community Policing and we have started to implement the Community Policing problem solving philosophy within the City of Pahokee.
Community policing and problem solving are focused on a few important principles. These include:
- Action Plans: Address issues with a plan by identifying underlying causes and resolve them using both traditional and non-traditional law enforcement solutions.
- Broken Windows: This is based on the theory by James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling that if an area looks good, the message is sent that someone cares and crime tends to decrease. Should one window get broken and go un-repaired, other windows will follow. Therefore, damage, graffiti and other eye-sores must be repaired or cleaned as quickly as possible.
- Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED): Identify and encourage changes in landscaping and lighting to reduce crime.
- Sector Books: Provide deputies with relevant and fresh information on wanted persons, sexual predators, crime statistics and more.
- Quality of Life Issues: Work to improve the living and neighborhood conditions to increase pride and reduce crime.
The Pahokee District is comprised of one Administrative Lieutenant, one Clerical Assistant, one Transcriptionist and 14 Road Patrol Deputies. Contracted law enforcement services, which started in February of 2006, are provided to approximately 7,000 residents over the 5.4 square-mile city.
