Daniel Smith - Countywide Operations
Major Smith currently commands the Countywide Operations Bureau which encompasses Alternative Intervention Services, Awards, Community Relations, Contracts, Court Services, Honor Guard, Parks Enforcement (Bicycle Operations & Mounted Unit), L.E. Reserve Deputies, Traffic, Training, Special Events/Graphics, Video, and Volunteers. The combined budget for all these units is over $41 million. Previously Major Smith was Commander over the North Regional Bureau as well as Special Operations/Homeland Security, and all specialized units.
Major Smith started with PBSO in 1987, coming from Point Pleasant Borough Police Department in New Jersey. He graduated from New Jersey State Police Academy, Florida Atlantic University Criminal Justice Executive Leadership Program, Harvard University - John F. Kennedy School of Government Crisis Management Program, and FBI Explosive Ordnance Disposal Executive Management Program. Major Smith attended Seton Hall University and recently earned his Master's Degree in Public Administration from Barry University. He is a member of the International Police Mountain Bike Association, International and Local Association of Chiefs of Police, National and State Sheriffs' Association, and the Royal Palm Beach Rotary.
Major Smith has been married to Karen for over 35 years, has 3 grown children, and 2 granddaughters.
