Letter from the District Captain:

Hello, my name is Greg Richter and I am the Commander of District 8-Wellington. It is an honor and a privilege to work alongside the dedicated staff of District 8, providing "excellent law enforcement services to an excellent community." I am now beginning my 27th year as a Palm Beach County Sheriff's employee and have been able to work in many facets of law enforcement within this agency, including road patrol, investigations, and specialized services. I want to thank you for visiting the District 8 website and browsing the various links to other valuable information and resources. If I may be of any further assistance to you, please email me at richterg@pbso.org.

When the Village of Wellington was incorporated in 1996, District 8-Wellington became Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office first "contracted policing district". The Wellington District has since served as the model for other PBSO - Municipal partnerships such as Lake Park, Royal Palm Beach, Mangonia Park, South Bay and Belle Glade.

The Village of Wellington comprises over 45 square miles in central Palm Beach County and has a population of approximately 60,000 residents. Wellington is a community which prides itself on planned growth, pristine neighborhoods, dedicated service, and commitment to its residents. One of the unique flavors of Wellington is a diverse recreation program and world-class equestrian activities including Show Jumping, Dressage, and Polo.

District 8-Wellington's administrative offices are located inside the Wellington Commons Mall. The district staff is comprised of forty-six (46) Patrol Deputies, two (2) motorcycle, six (6) Patrol Sergeants, two (2) detectives, one (1) Lieutenant, and one (1) Captain. The non-sworn support staff comprises two (2) Secretaries, one (1) Law Enforcement Aide, one (1) Criminal Justice Planner, and one (1) part-time Clerical Specialist. Other specialized units that support the district, such as K-9, Aviation, Major Crimes Unit, Crime Laboratory, etc. are provided from PBSO HQ at no additional costs to the Village of Wellington.

District 8 personnel continually provide law enforcement programs that are tailored to the specific needs of this community. Over the years we have been fortunate to introduce programs such as: Truancy Enforcement, Delinquency Prevention, Safety Programs for the Mall at Wellington Green, Problem Oriented Policing/Crime Prevention, Traffic Safety/ Motorcycle Unit, and the Street Crimes Unit." As we look to the future, District 8 will be developing and instituting many new programs; all with YOUR safety and security in mind.

Warmest Regards,

Captain Gregory Richter
